Postpartum (PPD) defined:
Post-partum depression is severe depression in a woman after she has given birth. It may occur soon after delivery or up to a year later. Most of the time, it occurs sometime in the first 4 weeks after delivery.
Symptoms:
Crying more that usual and feeling sad
Forgetfulness or problems concentrating
Feelings of being alone
Obsessive worries about the health of your child
Loss of interest in activities
Eating too little or too much
Withdrawl from friends and family
Problems sleeping
Risks:
previous postpartum depression
family history of a depression or a bipolar disorder
depressed during pregnancy
a history of premenstrual mood syndrome
Stressful situations that include marital tension, health problems with the baby, a complicated pregnancy or delivery, and a lack of social support
